Simon and the Island Releases Debut Album “Simon and the Island”: Streaming
Canadian rock band The Strumbellas frontman Simon Ward's solo project, Simon and the Island released his self-titled debut album on November 19, 2021.
The album comprises 9-track, produced by Brian Pickett, who is also Simon Ward's brother-in-law.
“I worked on a lot of it at my home studio and my producer Brian Pickett's studio here in our hometown - Lindsay, Ontario,” Simon Ward said of the album. “I would sit here and write the lyrics and write the melody and then literally walk to his house and we would work on it together there. It was like being teenagers again. We didn't know if it was going to go anywhere, we just did it for fun.”
A sliver of solace in dark times, emboldened in blind faith and brazen determination, the album is relatable, relevant, and resonant, strong and structured, honest, humble and full of heart.
He continued, “These songs are about my life. Some of them are about my struggles with mental health, some of them are love songs to my wife, who is my soul mate. This album is about being in a dark place but seeing the sliver of hope shine in. I hope it comforts and encourages others that are struggling with their own mental health that they're not alone.”
The album cover is created by Fenlon Falls artist, Lucy Manley.
He said, “Lucy's painting originally struck me because it reminded me of home. I loved the way the brush strokes were done and the colours she used to showcase the nature that is found in and around where I'm from. I immediately felt warm and happy when I saw it.”- source : Apple Music
