Foals Premieres New Song “Wake Me Up” on BBC Radio 1
- British rock band Foals, consisting of Yannis Philippakis, Jack Bevan and Jimmy Smith, premiered a new song “Wake Me Up” along with a music video on BBC Radio 1's Future Sounds with Clara Amfo.
The track was produced by John Hill, with co-production from Miles James and additional production courtesy of A.K. Paul.
The music video was directed by Dave East.
“With ‘Wake Me Up’, I just wanted to write a song about transporting yourself to a better, idyllic situation,” Yannis Philippakis said of the song in a statement. “I think we all had that feeling of the last eighteen months being like a weird fever dream that felt surreal but very affecting. I think we all wished we could have woken up somewhere else at various points.”
Yannis Philippakis told Clara Amfo about the song, “I think on this, like on this track and on the other tracks that are coming after this. Um, hopefully it'll become an outlet was definitely like, we would discuss basically wanting to make dark music for the dance floor in a way that we hadn't before. But in a way that I feel like it's always been in the DNA of the band, but we've just kind of wanted to explore other avenues simultaneously, and on this track is specific and what's the comment felt like we had a real kind of singular focus on that and a lot of it came from touring being cancelled and like just generally performances not happening. I feel like we were almost kind of trying to wish that into existence again. We were trying to like manifest it back. And have music for like ready for hopefully the shows or half next year and for everybody's having house parties and picking stuff back off with their mates.”
