Geoffroy Releases New Album “1952”: Streaming
Canadian singer-songwriter Geoffroy released his sophomore album “1952” on November 1st. It is his first LP in two years.
The album pays dedicate to his late mother and the album title is her birth year.
Geoffroy released the debut album “Coastline” in 2017. But he wasn’t able to fully celebrate his breakthrough moment—a few months after the album’s release, his mother passed away following an 11-year battle with cancer.
“This was not an easy record to complete,” Geoffroy said. “I ended up opening up in a very personal way—at some point, I was like, ‘F**k it—there’s nothing to hide anymore.’ But it was also a nice way to freeze this moment in time, and pay respects to my mother and have her life immortalized.”
“Breast cancer took my beloved mother away from me in 2017, 11 years after the first diagnosis," he explains. "In the last weeks, I told her my next album would be dedicated to her. She smiled. I wish she could hear it, but at least she knows.”
During the mourning process, he retreated to his childhood home, immersing himself in old family photos and VHS tapes. The album cover design is based on an old photo of his mother, designed by Montreal tattoo artist Dan Climan.
“I've been getting a lot of messages from young mothers or people that have lost one of their parents,” he added. “That's what makes this cool—everyone can can relate. This record is not only about me now.”- source : The 405
