Hozier & Mavis Staples Perform “Nina Cried Power” on The Ellen Show
Irish singer-songwriter Hozier and American R&B and gospel singer Mavis Staples appeared on The Ellen Show, where the pair performed their latest song “Nina Cried Power”. The marks the first time the have perormed ever on TV.
The song was rleased back in September from his fourth EP of the same title. It was written by Mavis Staples and Hozier.
The music video for the song was directed by Hozier's brother Jon Hozier-Byrne and Patrick Ryan. The clip was dedicated to ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union).
Hozier wrote of collaboration with Mavis Staples on Instagram, “Nina Cried Power is best described as a thank you note to the spirit of the work of artists and musicians who we can draw inspiration from the legacy of that legacy of people like Mavis Staples, Nina Simone, you have the Woody Guthries and Pete Seegers, Curtis Mayfields and Bob Dylans of the world and whose work embodied a certain spirit of protest in fairly uncertain times.”- source : Hot Press
