Schuyler Kitchin Releases New Song “gerasene”
Boston-based singer-songwriter Schuyler Kitchin released a new song “gerasene” on December 21, 2022.
The song is the third single off of his upcoming debut album “solstice”, which is expected to be released on February 24, 2023.
It was written by Schuyler Kitchin and produced by Daniel Tavani.
Pulling from a wide range of musical influences, his indie sound pairs acoustic and folk sounds with electronic and rock elements.
Schuyler Kitchin said of the song, “Some key themes of my album (wait whoa it's called solstice and a single came out on the solstice wow #taylorswift ) are death/life (e.g., surgery), winter/spring (e.g., north of boston), & darkness/light: this third single, 'gerasene,' marks the turning point in the album from darkness towards light. Its name comes from a story in the Gospel of Mark, where a demon-possessed man from the region of the Gerasenes who has been exiled/self-exiled among the tombs approaches Jesus and is released and restored from his condition.”
- He continued, “While I don't share his condition, I find that anxiety & fear, whether physical, social, or existential, push me to an analogous place of self-isolation attempting both to protect myself and to protect others. Yet here comes this mysterious one who invites me to freedom & healing, which seem more dangerous than the familiarity of my tomb. Yet he shines light into its darkness, for nothing is beyond the purview of the purifying flame.”
He added, “My debut album, solstice, arrives early 2023. It's been a gift to write, work on, and share this music from the shadowlands. Thanks for listening. I hope it helps you on your way.”
