  • Taylor Swift Premieres New Song “You Need To Calm Down” on Apple Beats 1

  • American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift premiered a new song “You Need To Calm Down” on Apple Betas 1 radio show.
She announced that a new track was coming on Instagram Live earlier today.
She said, “I’ve observed a lot of different people in our society who put so much energy and effort into negativity and it made me feel like, ‘you need to just calm down.’”
The song is the second single off her upcoming seventh studio album “Lover”, following the release of the Brendon Urie assisted track, “ME!”
“This album in tone, it’s very romantic — and not just thematically, like it’s all love songs,” she said. “I think the idea of something being romantic, it doesn’t have to be a happy song. You can find romance in loneliness or sadness or going through a conflict or dealing with things in your life … It looks at things with a very romantic gaze.”
On the track, she addresses her various detractors who constantly post hurtful comments online. The song follows a theme of self-love and staying true to one’s identity in the face of hatred and spite.

She also shows her support to the LGBTQ+ community throughout the track.
On June 1st, the first day of Pride Month, she penned an open letter to Tennessee’s Republican Senator Lamar Alexander in support of the Equality Act.
She has already filmed the music video for the song. “[The fans] make it so fun to make a music video,” she said. “Like, when we’re planning a music video and I know that it’ll be really fun for them if we create a scavenger hunt throughout the video. For me, that’s more fun than when I used to make videos and I didn’t try to plant clues. I love this!”
The new album is set to be released on August 23rd.
