Ciara & Ester Dean Show Black Pride in New Protest Video "Rooted"
American singer-songwriter Ciara showed her support for Black Lives Matter in her latest music video for “Rooted”, featuring guest vocals from singer-songwriter Ester Dean.
The clip features many references to the Black Power movement and Black Lives Matter, and directed by Annie Bercy. The track was produced by Hudson Mohawke and Stargate.
Ciara filmed the video while pregnant, after shooting the video, she gave birth to her son Win.
“I am blessed to be able to carry seeds of new life into this world,” Ciara said in a press release. “The foundation of love for my family and the pride for my culture has made me feel rooted in my life, and nothing can knock me down. I am also reminded through my trials and triumphs, everything I need to survive and thrive is rooted in me. Gender nor color of your skin can limit how far you will go in life.”
A portion of proceeds from the song will benefit Grantmakers for Girls of Color, a philanthropic organization dedicated to cultivating investments in support of girls of color in the U.S.
