World Surf League: 2018 Roxy Pro France Kicks Off at Landes in Nouvelle-Aquitaine
The 9th stop on Women's Championship, 2018 Roxy Pro France kicked off at Landes in Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France on October 3, 2018.
Reigning World Champion Tyler Wright (AUS) and Silvana Lima (BRA) withdrew this event due to injury.
Women's Championship has two events, including Roxy Pro France, remaining this year.
Stephanie Gilmore (AUS) is sitting at No. 1 on Jeep Leaderboard with 61,175 points, Lakey Peterson (USA) sits as 2nd place behind her by 6,915 points. If Stephanie Gilmore wins this event, she will claim her 7th World Champion.
In Round 1, Stephanie Gilmore and Lakey Peterson won and advanced directly to Round 3, respectively.
For Lacey Peterson, it is still possible to take her first World Title.
"Honestly, I wasn't too nervous," Lakey Peterson said. "I'm more focused on each heat and then later I can deal with any scenarios that unfold. However there's no denying there is relief in getting through that first heat. You move through to Round 3 and you can get your groove on. I can now feel out my boards, enjoy where we are and be ready for whatever comes my way."
While Stephanie Gilmore said, "It sounds like a simple equation; win the event, win the Title. But I try not to think about the scenarios too much. Every event I show up to I want to win. With this one though it's nice to know with that simple result, there's another massive opportunity that comes with it."
Defending Champion of the event, Carissa Moore (HAW) showcased 7.50 points riding, defeat Coco Ho (HAW) and Paige Hareb (NEZ) in Heat 2.
Also, Tatiana Weston-Webb (BRA) earned the best score of the day 8.83 points and advanced to Round 3.- 2018 Roxy Pro France Round 1 Results:
