  • MotoGP German: Marc Marquez Takes Emotional First Win Since Injury Comeback at Sachsenring

  • German Grand Prix watched Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda) claimed his first victory after 581 days since his last win at Valencia in 2019.

This result marks he made it 11 in a row at Sachsenring. Also, it is Honda's first win of 2021, as well as his first victory from career-threatening arm injury in 2020.
Miguel Oliveira (Red Bull KTM) finished 2nd from 6th and took back-to-back podiums following Catalunya GP.
Fabio Quartararo (Monster Yamaha) was 3rd, but kept Championship lead to 22 points over Johann Zarco (Pramac Racing), who finished 8th.
Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM) fought his way through to fourth from 13th ahead of Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Team) and Jack Miller (Ducati Team), with Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia Gresini) seventh.
Joan Mir (Suzuki Ecstar) recovered from 16th on the grid to 9th ahead of Pol Espargaro (Repsol Honda).
Maverick Vinales (Monster Yamaha) suffered his worst-ever MotoGP result of 19th behind a struggling Franco Morbidelli (Petronas Yamaha) on the two-year-old SRT M1.

Marc Marquez said, “I mean, It's been one of the most important and hardest moments of my career, and today I knew it was a great opportunity. It was not easy the mentality because I'm coming from a hard situation; three zeros in a row, but I say today is the day. Before I come in this weekend I say, 'okay, I will try to fight for the podium, I will try to be close to the top guys', but the victory was low possibility. But I say 'if it's the perfect condition I will try. When I saw a few drops on the lap four or five, I said 'it's my race'. Then at that point I pushed and kept the same race pace as before. Even when it started the second drops I pushed even more and I said it was time to take a risk. I take on those laps and when I pass that moment; then start the second race with Miguel [Oliveira]. He push a lot. It was hard, was really hard to keep concentrated because of all the memories - all the situations during this last year was there. But yeah, we did it! We will do again and we will try to stay on the same level. I already say this will be the first weekend I will ride with less physical limitation. There is less right corners, so less corners where I will lose time. Left corners I feel, not 100% the position, but is no limitation to be fast. All these things help and today I did the perfect start. I did the perfect first lap. When I saw that Miguel [Oliveira] was catching me I say 'okay, maybe it will be difficult'. But I believe, I believe in me. It was hard to push and hard to have the confidence because I was thinking more about the three crashes in a row. So today was also important to finish the race and we did it in a very good way.”
