Back in 2019, Los Angeles-based British singer-songwriter Bishop Briggs released her sophomore album “Champion”.
From the album, she dropped a new remix of “SOMEONE ELSE” on February 12, 2021.
This time, she collaborated with British singer-songwriter Jacob Banks. The original version of the song was released as a promotional single in November 2019.
“I wrote 'Someone Else' about feeling overwhelmed by existing in the world. I texted Jacob Banks this dream I had of hearing his voice on this song. Within a few hours he sent back a version of him singing along to the track full of his iconic vocal tone that you really only come across once or twice in your lifetime if you are lucky,” Bishop Briggs said. “I began tearing up within seconds of hearing his voice in the intro of the song. Jacob has one of those voices that you read about in the music history books… I hope you feel comfort and warmth.”- She shared a cover photo of the single on social media, "My sister, Kate took this photo which is the artwork for the release tonight which makes me feel very emotional. More emotional than I've already been? Who's to say. This particular day was one of my favorite days as I love how Kate is on set. As you can imagine behind the scenes she was my biggest hype person cheering (literally screaming in delight) for me every step of the way. It was really lovely working with @work.pile on this because he fully embraced every facet of what made Kate, Kate. There was never any restraint on her creativity, light, ideas or energy. To see Kate on set was to see her filming every bit of behind the scenes footage you can imagine, beaming smile, correcting anything that looked off balance, grabbing my shoulder to reassure me, organizing the crew, cracking jokes, scheduling, seeing the tiniest details to adjust just to take things to the next level, etc you name it she did it. I feel grateful that these past few years that has been consistent in who we've chosen to work with. Light is light and we wanted to associate ourselves with people who had that light too. Even seeing if @mrjacobbanks could be on this song was a part of being drawn to the light. When I meet genuine and pure people I just see Kate. I think it will always be that way. Recently, Bishop Briggs has written on social media that she needs someone to help her sister Kate, who has cancer.
She wrote, "Hey everyone, I was originally keeping this private out of respect for Kate but she has given me consent to speak out about this as we are in dire need of some help. About 6 months ago my sweet sister was diagnosed with ovarian cancer that has now spread to her stomach. She has tried numerous types of chemo but after a CT scan last week we learned it was worsening and therefore this round of chemo (we were hoping would work) isn't. The hospital said they could do nothing more for her. Kate is 30 years old and I am reaching out to see if any of you have names, alternative medicines, contacts, clinical trials, etc that can help us.” - source : Spotify
