  • Taylor Swift Preforms “The Man”, “Lover”, “Death By A Thousand Cuts” & “All Too Well” at NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert

  • American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift appeared on NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert on October 16th.

She performed “The Man”, “Lover”, “Death by a Thousand Cuts” and “All Too Well” at NPR Music's office in Washington, D.C.
"Wow! This is a lot of people in a tiny office! I love it!" Taylor Swift said. "I just decided to take this as an opportunity to show you guys how the songs sounded when I first wrote them. It's just me. There's no dancers, unfortunately".
“The Man”, “Lover” and “Death by a Thousand Cuts” are include on her latest album “Lover”, which was released back in August.
The album was co-produced by her frequent collaborator Jack Antonoff.
She said of “The Man”, "This is a song that I’ve been wanting to write for a very long time in my career, but I could never figure out exactly how to phrase it. I’ve wondered several times, “If I had been a man instead of a woman and had lived my life exactly the same way, what would people have said about me?” It’s about perception. It’s not, “what would I do if I were a man?” It’s about how I would be seen if I’d done exactly the same stuff. This is when I finally got an idea of how to approach this song."

“Lover” is the new album title tune. The music video features Christian Owens. She said, "I think the fishbowl scene is my favorite metaphor in the Lover video. And guys.. I’ve performed on stage with Christian Owens for years. He’s unbelievably talented and it was so amazing to have him in the Lover music video!"
“Death By A Thousand Cuts” is inspired by the Netflix film "Someone Great". She explained, "I watched this movie on Netflix called “Someone Great”. It’s this amazing like well-done romantic comedy with a heart and just like depth to it, because it’s about this relationship that ends after like eight or nine years, and you know […]. And so I cried watching the movie, and so, for like a week I start waking up from dreams that I’m living out that scenario, that that’s happening to me. And I just would wake up and I’m like: “Oh my God, I’m writing a break-up song”, like I have these lyrics in my head based on the dynamics of these characters."
“All Too Well” is included on her 2012 album “Red”. She co-wrote the song with Liz Rose. She said, “All Too Well” [was difficult to write emotionally] because it took me a really long time to filter through everything I wanted to put in the song without it being a 10 minute song, which you can’t put on an album. I wanted a story that could work in the form of a song and I called my co-writer Liz Rose and said, ‘Come over, we’ve gotta filter this down,’ and it took me a really long time to get it."
