Magdalena Bay Announces Debut Album “Mercurial World”, Unveils New Song “Chaeri”
Los Angeles-based alt-pop duo Magdalena Bay, consisting of Mica Tenenbaum and Matthew Lewin, announced their debut album “Mercurial World” would be released on October 8, 2021 via Luminelle Records.
Matthew Lewin said of the album, “We spend all of our time together, and in some ways Mercurial World is about that particular sense of madness in containment. We live together and make art together; this immerses you in our creative, insular universe.”
From the album, the duo unveiled a new song “Chaeri” along with a music video. It was written by Matthew Lewin and Mica Tenenbaum. The accompanying music video was directed by Luke Orlando.
“'Chaeri' muses on mental health, friendship, loneliness, and control. It's about the walls we put up and the walls we should tear down for the sake of authentic connection, and Mica's own personal difficulties with that,” the duo said. “We tried taking these themes and elevating them to build a big, dark world with unsettling undertones.”- photo by Lissyelle Laricchia
