MotoGP Austrian GP: Francesco Bagnaia Wins at Red Bull Ring
CryptoDATA Motorrad Grand Prix von Österreich watched pole sitter Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo) claimed his fifth grand prix victory of the season at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg on August 20, 2023.
He led the race from beginning and never gave the top, finally, he took the chequered flag over five seconds clear of the 2nd place.
Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM) finished 2nd, it is third time podium in 2023.
Marco Bezzecchi (Mooney VR46 Ducati) was 3rd and followed by his team-mate Luca Marini (Mooney VR46 Ducati) was 4th.
Alex Marquez (Gresini Ducati) competed against Marco Bezzecchi and Luca Marini for the 3rd place, but eventually finished 5th ahead of Maverick Viñales (Aprilia Racing), who was 6th.
In spite of having served a long lap penalty for causing the multi-rider collision in the sprint, Jorge Martin (Pramac Ducati) was 7th.
Fabio Quartararo (Monster Yamaha), Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia Racing), and Enea Bastianini (Ducati Lenovo) rounded out the top 10.
The race result marks Francesco Bagnaia currently leads Jorge Martin by 62 points in the standings.
Francesco Bagnaia said, “I didn't have the chance to be in a group but it was already on the limit. I was over the limit by far. We had more margin for this race which was helpful for sure, but I was alone and my pressure was still over 2. It became more difficult to ride over 1.9, so in any case it was not easy but we have to understand it, improve and we have to just get used to it. We did such an incredible job. We improved a lot from Friday where I had a good feeling but was missing something. Yesterday we improved and today in the race it was really hot and I already knew that the rear tyre could be a mess. The front tyre was at the start but right now we are understanding how to improve that a bit more. It is one of the best wins this season in terms of speed and consistency.”
