British singer-songwriter Charlotte OC has released a new song “Mexico” along with a music video.
The song will appear on her upcoming sophomore album “Here Comes Trouble”.
It was written by Charlotte OC, Carys Selvey, and Couros, who also produced the track.
“I wrote this song when my boyfriend at the time was away with work and we weren't speaking much,” Charlotte OC said of the song. “I missed him a lot and wasn't getting much from him, so this song is what I wished he was saying to me, but in reality he wasn't saying a lot.”
The music video was directed by Charlotte OC herself. “I'm so proud and excited for this video as it's the first video I've ever directed,” she said. “Myself and Jan came together to bring alive an idea I had, to demonstrate my emotional state when making the song. Mexico is all about my ex being away during a time when we weren't great. I was trying to get his attention and to show him how much I loved him.”
She continued, “I wanted the video to show the turmoil I was in when I didn't quite know what was going on. I was feeling lost and I drank a lot. I think a lot of people can relate, this video is me drowning my sorrows at the state of my relationship.”- The new album comprises of 12-track and is set to be released on October 15, 2021.
“In the space of two months, everything that had once been, was no longer,” she said of the album. “My heart had been broken in a way I could never have imagined. This resulted in me partying too much, not sleeping, hardly eating and smoking like a chimney. Self-destruct mode, activated. I felt totally lost in space and nobody could bring me back to Earth. Through this dark time I was forced to acknowledge things about myself, and sometimes not in the most positive way. This is me self-deprecating, this is me standing up for myself, this is me madly in love, horrifically heartbroken, angry, this is me praying to a god I don't believe in about a life I couldn't lead, because I had nothing left to lose.”
She added, “I could not have made this album without the love and support I received from my producer, Couros, and the small bunch of co-writers I collaborated with on some of these songs. They picked both me and this album from the depths of darkness and helped me expel the demons into my work.” - source : Spotify
