Japanese-British singer-songwriter Rina Sawayama teamed up with British singer-songwriter Elton John to release a new remix of “Chosen Family”.
The original version of the song is included on her debut album “Sawayama”, which was released last April.
It was written by Jonny Lattimer, Danny L Harle and Rina Sawayama.
Rina Sawayama said, “It was such a joy and honour to rework 'Chosen Family' with the legendary Elton John. The song means so much to both of us, and recording it together was such a special experience I will never forget. I got shivers when I heard his voice through the monitor and became emotional when he added the piano parts. Elton has been such a huge supporter from before the album, and when we finally met to record this song we clicked from the get go. I hope people can hear the magic!”- GTDRg5G77x4

She told Apple music about the song, “I wrote this thinking about my chosen family, which is my LGBTQ sisters and brothers. I mean, at university, and at certain points in my life where I've been having a hard time, the LGBTQ community has always been there for me. The concept of chosen family has been long-standing in the queer community because a lot of people get kicked out of their homes and get ostracized from their family for coming out or just living true to themselves. I wanted to write a song literally for them, and it's just a message and this idea of a safe space—an actual physical space.”- source : Apple Music
