Los Angeles-based alt-pop singer-songwriter Sadye released the second single of 2024 called “The Joke Is On Me” on May 3, 2024, following the release of “Pretty Traumatized” back in February.
The song was inspired by her intense struggle with cancer.
It was written by Barry Cohen, Stephanie Haderer, and Wyatt Sanders. Produced by Gingerbread.
Sadye said of the song, “The entire essence of the song is in the first two lines. It’s an idea that has haunted me a lot—physically surviving but becoming kind of mentally ruined. I had a lot of questions in the wake of what I went through and even years later. I put them into this record. I think we all wonder why we’re here for different reasons, so I feel like people will relate to that aspect of the song.”- She shared on social media, “Thank you Barry Cohen and Wyatt Sanders for making this song with me. Some of my favorite lyrics ever. A perfect follow up to Pretty Traumatized. I might never speak on these experiences again because it's time to move on leaving them in this song.”
