boygenius Covers Shania Twain's “You're Still The One” on BBC Radio 1
Last month, American indie rock band boygenius performed “Not Strong Enough” on BBC Radio 6 Music Live Session.
This time, the band appeared on BBC Radio 1 to perform a cover of Canadian singer-songwriter Shania Twain's “You're Still The One”.
The original version of the song was released by Shania Twain from her third studio album “Come On Over” in 1997.
The song reached No. 2 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and was the best-selling country single of 1998 in the US.
Also, the song was certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America, denoting shipments of over two million units.
The track was written by Shania Twain and Robert John 'Mutt' Lange.
boygenius told Clara Amfo of BBC Radio 1 about Shania Twain, “So like, enigmatic on stage and every song is a hit like such a big part of my childhood. Learning that her producer was like a metal guy. And like her voice is so beautiful and the content is so like pop but like, there's it's kind of heavy. Actually, it's really hard.”- They continued, “And 'Man! I Feel Like a Woman!', too. Another song was like really musical. Yeah, hair metal apps, yeah, arrangement. Also shout out to our friends that got married. We learned the song for a friend's wedding, and then had learned it so we did it. Congratulations, Aiden and Matias. We love Rock, we love you. It was like, we sang this and stared into their eyes while they were at the altar and it could not like I was having a really hard time and like, I started crying. They started crying. It was yeah, I was crying so I had to like look up in the sky.”
boygenius released their debut album “The Record” back in March. The album is nominated for Album of the Year, Best Alternative Music Album, and Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical at the 2024 Grammy Awards.
Also, the single “Not Strong Enough” has nominations for Record of the Year, Best Rock Song, and Best Rock Performance, while the single “Cool About It” is nominated for Best Alternative Music Performance at the Grammy Awards. - source : BBC Radio 1
