MGMT Announces New Album “Loss Of Life”, Shares New Song “Mother Nature”
American indie rock band MGMT, consisting of Andrew VanWyngarden (vocals/guitar) and Benjamin Goldwasser (vocals/keyboards), has announced their fifth studio album “Loss Of Life” will be released on February 23, 2024.
It is their first album in six years since the 2018 album “Little Dark Age” and is also the first LP under their new label Mom + Pop.
The album comprises 10-track, featuring a guest appearance from French singer-songwriter Christine and the Queens. Produced by Andrew VanWyngarden, Ben Goldwasser and Patrick Wimberly.
MGMT said of the album, “All joking aside (never!), we are very proud of this album and the fact that it was a relatively painless birth after a lengthy gestation period, and are happy to be releasing this baby into the world with Mom+Pop.”
The duo added, “Musically speaking, we are running at around 20% adult contemporary and no more than this, please.”- From the album the duo released the first single called “Mother Nature” on October 31, 2023.
The song is accompanied by the Jordan Fish-directed animated music video.
The track was written by Ben Goldwasser, Andrew VanWyngarden, and Brian Joseph Burton. Produced by MGMT and Patrick Wimberly.
The clip shows two animal friends named Dog and Turtle teaming up to defeat an evil pet collector.
Director Jordan Fish said of the video, “I hope the story makes people happy and feel connected to family, friends and the animal kingdom as well.” -
The duo shared on social media, “We are over the moon about this collection of songs and feel very happy to unleash it onto the world. It is an album that brandishes the power of love in the face of inevitable human death and decay, and hopes to encourage collective comfort in remembering the universe's inextinguishable yet often brutal desire to find balance and harmony.”
They continued, “Your first nibble of Loss Of Life comes in the form of this fantastical music video for 'Mother Nature' directed by Jordan Fish and produced by Alejandro Crawford, created with love by 2n.
