Rachael Bawn Returns With New Song “Snapshot”
Toronto-based singer-songwriter Rachael Bawn returned with a new song “Snapshot” on September 15, 2023.
The song is her first music in four years since the 2019 debut album “Chasing Lights”.
She teamed up with songwriter Rosanne Baker Thornley, and producer Ben Pelchat, she has co-written powerful new songs with an overarching theme of truth-telling.
“What’s real and what’s fake? There’s a version of ourselves that we present to our followers on social media, and then there’s the real us,” Rachael Bawn said of the song. “I’m so aware of the negative aspects of social media and how damaging it can be. My song, “Snapshot,” speaks to how we’re all guilty of posting our highlight reels, using filters, and making everything appear as perfect as we can make it. Sometimes we compare ourselves to what we see online, but we shouldn’t because what we see isn’t even real. We’re chasing a perfection that we know doesn’t exist. It’s fabricated.”
- She continued, “This song is a criticism of the social media paradox. We use it to feel connected, but we end up doom scrolling, comparing ourselves to others, and ultimately feel more lonely. I wanted to touch on both the good and bad of social media because it’s so relevant and such a danger to our mental health.”
She added, “Usually I start writing a song on guitar, but for this song I worked with Rosanne Baker Thornley who encouraged me to start with only lyrics and approach it almost like a poem. Later we worked with producer Ben Pelchat to shape the music around the mood. I had never written a song like that before, so it was a good challenge to try a different approach.”
