BITTER KISSES Releases Debut Song “Pr*y”
Bristol-based heavy-pop band BITTER KISSES, consisting of Gemma Tracey (vocals), Thomas Adams (bass/vocals), Josh Butcher (guitar/vocals) and Scarlett Cawley (drums), released a debut song “Pr*y” on February 3, 2023.
The track was written by Gemma Tracey, Thomas Adams, Josh Butcher, Scarlett Cawley, Fionn McGuinness-Maris, and George Farley.
The band said of the song, “Pr*y was partially inspired by a fever dream in which Lady Gaga collaborated with Queens of the Stone Age to produce a new Earth Wind And Fire song.”
They continued, “When writing Pr*y we wanted to create a track which could ambiguously explore the difference in meanings of the words 'prey' and 'pray', and how they each apply to dangerous or unhealthy relationships. One person could worship another, while at the same time being preyed upon by the subject of their love. The meaning of the lyrics can change depending on which version prey/pray you want to hear whenever they're used in the song.”- The accompanying music video was directed by Chris Lucas.
The video is inspired by David Lynch-style psychedelic and surrealist films. The entire set and props included were created by the band themselves in true DIY fashion.
The band said of the video, “With this music video, we wanted to create a world fitting the style and mood of the track. Naturally, this meant creating a sinister, twisted disco-cult in a run-down nightclub. We loved the idea of creating a gothic chamber in a nightclub and having two unwitting victims fall into its trap. One of our couple succumbs quickly, almost willingly to the will of the room. Meanwhile, the other watches their partner lose themselves and tries in vain to fight back against the influence.” -
