Sharon Van Etten Releases New Song “Used To It”
American singer-songwriter Sharon Van Etten has released a new song “Used To It” along with a music video.
Originally, she wrote the song for for the HBO 2020 documentary “Baby God”, which follows a fertility specialist who impregnates women with his own sperm.
It was written by Sharon Van Etten and co-produced by Daniel Knowles. The accompanying video was directed by Charley Damski.
The clip stars Sharon Van Etten and choreographer Hayden J Frederick.
Sharon Van Etten shared on social media, “I was originally asked to help create the score for a documentary called Baby God, a documentary about a fertility specialist who takes it upon himself to impregnate women with his own sperm. Ultimately, the film team changed their musical direction, but I found myself welcomely challenged to the idea of writing a song about the concept of family, connection through blood, nature vs nurture, while attempting to incorporate ideas of love and the complexities of science and technology. I am grateful for this song to be able to have a new life, relating more to the times we have all been living through and redefining the meaning of this song by focusing on the positives of seeking connection and understanding what family means to the individual. My friend, collaborator, and bandmate Charley Damski helped me create a video with the talented choreographer Hayden J Frederick. Together, they helped me convey the feelings of internal struggles, while also seeking out and finding space for oneself during that struggle and embracing that pain in order to move on.”- source : Spotify
