Penelope Antena Covers John Martyn's “Back To Stay”
Belgian-French singer-songwriter Penelope Antena has released the first single off of her upcoming sophomore album “Beamorose” called “Back To Stay”.
The song is a cover of British singer-songwriter John Martyn's “Back To Stay”.
The original version of the song was released by John Martyn from his debut album “London Conversation” in 1967.
Penelope Antena said of the song, “Even though the John Martyn's song is a guitar driven ballad, I wanted to give it a different, fuller feel with piano. I teamed up with Austin based Ballet pianist Joshua Piper, who kept it true to the original, but added an extra layer of emotion. Then multi-instrumentalist Jeremy Ylvisaker, who I met in Chicago, came in and added some beautiful guitar textures that gave the cover its ethereal grain.”- The accompanying music video was shot at Brittany in Northern France by her daughter. She said, “The music video was shot two summers ago by my then 11 year old daughter in Brittany (located in Northern France). I decided to use this homemade footage because it reflected a pre-covid time, when everything was simpler, when we could still kiss and hug each other, pure carelessness…this is made even more obvious captured through the eyes of a child.”
The sophomore album is set to be released on August 19, 2021 via Youngbloods. - source : SoundCloud
