Caroline Polachek & Lauren Auder Cover Virginia Astley's “Some Small Hope”
American singer-songwriter Caroline Polachek teamed up with London-based singer-songwriter Lauren Auder to release a cover of “Some Small Hope”.
This marks the first time Caroline Polachek and Lauren Auder have collaborated. The track was produced by Danny L Harle.
“Some Small Hope” was released by British singer-songwriter Virginia Astley along with David Sylvian in 1986 from her album “Hope in a Darkened Heart”. Produced by Japanese musician Ryuichi Sakamoto.
Caroline Polachek shared on social media, “Within hours of first meeting Lauren on a rainy day in November, we found ourselves gushing about 'Some Small Hope', a precious and influential piece of music for both of us, and it was clear we had to sing it together. The process of making it spiraled into a sort of self-fulfilling prophecy: a light at the end of a dark year, and a shared internal space to reflect on loss, transience, trust, and hope.”
Lauren Auder said, “i met caroline about a month ago and after an extensive walk and chat, cross referencing musical influences, i sent her virginia astley’s record thinking if she hadn’t heard it she would love it. Of course she had and asked if I’d like to cover this particular song together with danny, our first point of contact. The whole thing has come to be one of the most special and rewarding experiences I’ve had all 2020. If i may say so myself it feels like the right way to end this year, hope you enjoy 🪡🗝”- source : Pitchfork
