  • Tom Walker Releases New Album “I AM”

  • Scottish singer-songwriter Tom Walker released his sophomore album “I AM” on September 2024 via Relentless Records.

This marks his first album in five years since the 2019 debut album “What a Time to Be Alive”.
The album comprises 13-track, featuring a guest appearance from German singer-songwriter Zoe Wees.
Produced by Cam Blackwood, Connor McDonough, Șerban Cazan, Jacob Manson, Jim Abbiss, Patrick Salmy, Ricardo Muñoz Repko, Riley McDonough, Rupert Christie, Ryan Daly, Stuart Price and Tom Walker.

Tom Walker said of the album, “I've called it 'I Am' because it's the culmination of me trying to figure out who I am for the last four years. This record is a snapshot of what's been going on in my life, and what's been happening around me - what's made me happy or sad, ecstatic or miserable.”

He continued, “I can't tell you the amount of time, passion and energy I have poured into making this record. I won't lie, at times it hasn't been easy, I've ripped up and binned more than an album's worth of material to get to this point. But I can confidently say I've never believed in the music I am making more than I do now. I am absolutely in love with these songs and the production that backs them up.”
  • He shared on social media, “It's been a hell of a road getting to this point!! I felt like giving up and packing it all in on multiple occasions, had moments of doubting myself and questioning my abilities as a writer and a performer. But we made it!!!! I'm so proud of this album, it is without a doubt the most ambitious music I've ever put out. I'm sorry it took 5 years but I promise it's one million percent worth the wait. I wanna say a massive thank you to everyone who has continued to support me and my music over the years. I cannot describe in words what it means to wake up everyday and do something I love.”

  • Tom Walker explained about some tracks for the album.

    “Holy Ghost”
“It's a bit like the kind of soul that's in 'Take Me to Church,' but with darkness, too. At that point, my wedding was 11 days away, and I wanted to write a love song that didn't really feel like a love song. It could be about any person that cares for you and looks out for you. Who's a shadow over you, making sure that you're OK.”

    “Burn”
“I had just done seven days of rehearsal in a row, straight into a UK tour, then into 2 weeks of writing, worked my arse off every hour, of every day for months. When the powers that be came back having a dig at the songs I'd poured my heart and my soul into, I absolutely lost it. I honestly thought 'I'm going to have to call it a day with music, it was making me miserable' I was angry, and you can hear that in 'Burn'. In many lines of work, music included, you give it everything and sacrifice every other aspect of your life and it's never enough.
Their love and passion for the whole thing reignited something in me that I didn't realise I'd lost – which was the excitement and the love and the trying of brand new things. The day I wrote 'Burn', I thought 'Fuck everyone, I'm sick of this. I scrapped a whole album and decided to go back to making songs that I love. Songs that make the hairs stand up on the back of my neck. Songs that bring a tear to my eye. Songs that actually mean something to me.”

    “Head Underwater”
“I've been making music my entire life to start in 2023 I thought about packing it all in, I was depressed. I was gonna create, luckily I found a great, amazing producers and writers and we started from scratch. This song 'Head Underwater' is about deep down in the depths of the darkness for so long without strong.
Writing this song got me out of a difficult time in my life...hope it helps anyone who is going through something similar.
This is about keeping my inner demons at bay and the constant battle I'm having with myself - sometimes feeling suffocated and overwhelmed by the weight of the world. Head Underwater signifies the sensation of feeling like I'm drowning in my own thoughts and emotions. Despite the overwhelming struggle, there's a determination to survive and emerge stronger from this internal conflict.”

    “Freaking Out”
“So many of you have been writing about relating to this one, it's tough to open up but it's always worth it...we all freak out and wobble every now and then but we can get through anything.”

    “Lifeline”
“Last year me and my friends lost one of our own suddenly and unexpectedly. It's difficult to process grief. I felt we were all asking ourselves 'What could I have done? What could I have said? What could have been done differently?'. Sometimes people make choices that are beyond your control and it's hard to help someone who isn't reaching out. My hope is that maybe by writing a song like this that addresses the stigma behind mental health, it might persuade people to think twice and ask for a helping hand when they're really struggling. CALM is an amazing charity who helps people when things get too much. I'm keen to spread the word about their amazing work in any way that I can.”

    “I AM”
“The last track I wrote off the I AM album and the last to be released before the album drops, it holds a special place in my heart.”
