  • Slowe Releases Debut Album “Where The Mind Wanders”

  • Bristol-based singer-songwriter Sophie Hawes, aka Slowe released her debut album “Where The Mind Wanders” on July 28, 2023.

The album comprises 10-track, written and produced by Slowe with production by Laurence Fazakerley-Buglass, featuring a guest appearance from Rachai.
This project is a window into Slowe’s mind, with each song reflecting a different aspect of her inner world. With a musical landscape that ebbs and flows, Sophie poetically addresses the struggles of self-doubt and the beauty of fulfilment and joy.
Sophie Hawes explained as “both introspective and immersive, each track is a dive into the depths of the human psyche, exploring the intricacies of emotions and thoughts that often go unspoken.”
The album is influenced by Jazz music, she featured jazz elements like guitar, piano, saxophone and strings.
She continued, “I would say my earlier influences (Laura Marling, Jeff Buckley) inspire my songwriting and lyrics, whereas my later influences of soul, hip hop and jazz inform my production.”
She added, “Perfectly summarises the themes on the album and what I was going through when making these songs”
  • Sophie Hawes shared on social media, “I have a lot of big feelings and things I want to say but for now, I hope you enjoy this album. It's the product of over 3 years of work, and collaboration with some amazing people.”
She continued, “Sometimes I wish I could go back and tell my younger self that this music thing will work out, that I’m releasing my very own album on my favorite record label🥺
For as long as I can remember I’ve had this dream, at first I wanted to be a pop star, singing into my hairbrush in my bedroom. Then I wanted to be a singer-songwriter, bringing my guitar with me wherever I went. Then I hit my teens and all I wanted was to be in a BAND, and I was felt the coolest in my noise-rock band in college. After that, I kind of fell out of love with performing, and that’s when I found my thing, producing.
As the release of my debut album approaches, I can’t help but reflect and wonder how I got so lucky, and I realise a big part of it is my parents. I am lucky enough to have parents who never once told me to find another dream, or that I should maybe pick a career to fall back on. They drove me to my very first gigs I played when I was 15, and came to every single one throughout the years. I am so grateful to them for allowing me to dream.
So basically all that is to say, my debut album drops, and that is really quite mad. 💕”

  • Sophie Hawes explained about some tracks for the album.

    “WYLTK”
“The song is about the unspoken thoughts we have, the ones we sometimes wish we'd say, and the things we don't say to keep from stirring up confrontation.”

    “Superego”
“A quote I found said 'superego is the part of a person's mind or personality,' that tells them how to behave based on learned morals and values.”

    “Fix Me Up” featuring Rachai
“The song capture the electricity you feel when you meet someone you really vibe with”.

    “Stay Right Here”
“it's quite a beautiful thing to know someone that well and to have shared so much together”

    “Calibrate”
“Written, produced and mixed by me. This was by far, the most challenging but fulfilling song I’ve made for the album. My vision for this song seemed unreachable at times, but a year of work, patience, and trial and error eventually concluded in a song I’m incredibly proud of.”
