Pollyanna Blue Releases Debut EP “Trials & Tribulations”
Bristol-based alt-rock duo Pollyanna Blue, consisting of Zoe Collins (guitar/vocal) and Rich Earle (bass/vocals), released their debut EP “Trials & Tribulations” on June 23, 2023.
The EP comprises 4-track, written by Zoe Collins and Rich Earle, and produced by Ash Scott.
They started making the EP during the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic forced the band to really utilise the digital age, writing tracks back and forth online before travelling to Bristol to complete them in person.
The title of the EP was inspired by personal and abstract experiences, from the trials of being in a band that started right before a pandemic, to the personal tribulations of battling with your own mental health.
Allowing herself to use music to channel unresolved trauma and recurring issues, each song gets up close and personal with Zoe Collins's journey of internal development and emotional maturity.
The band name was inspired by a self help book “Feel The Fear And Do It Anyway”, which talks about a nickname “Pollyanna”, typically given to a person who is deemed overly optimistic.
Pollyanna Blue shared on social media, “For us this is a huge milestone. You wouldn't believe the journey we have taken to get to this moment right here! We've kept that 'Pollyanna' mindset and whatever has come our way, we have made something good from it and this EP is a love letter to that! 💌”
- The duo explained about some tracks for the EP.
“In this song trauma is depicted as an unforgiving evil spirit that will come at you at night and relentlessly try to tear you down. The impactful delivery of the lyrics harnesses the real range of emotions of someone experiencing immense feelings of emptiness, sadness and anger. The lyric 'like a headache' depicts the side effects of dealing with large and repetitive amounts of trauma and stress to the brain, painting an unpleasant experience for the person being Haunted by their own predicament.”
“Strong Enough was a song that was written to lift you up and fight back when you are feeling down and out. It's a reminder that despite how you feel, deep down, you are good enough and strong enough to overcome all that gets in your way. We hope you love this song as much as we love to play it”
