  • Coldplay Performs “The Astronaut”, “Human Heart” & “Fix You” on Saturday Night Live

  • British rock band Coldplay, Chris Martin (vocals/keyboards/rhythm guitar), Jonny Buckland (lead guitar), Guy Berryman (bass) and Will Champion (drums), appeared on Saturday Night Live to perform “The Astronaut” and a mash-up of “Human Heart” and “Fix You”.

This time, British singer-songwriter Jacob Collier, and Jason Max Ferdinand Singers joined in performance.
“The Astronaut” was released by South Korean singer Jin of BTS last October. The track was written by Jin and Coldplay.
Currently, Jin is serving in the Korean military for their mandatory enlistment. This time, he didn't appear on SNL.
Chris Martin said, “About six months ago, one of [BTS'] members called me up. I have to leave the band in December [to join] the army in Korea because that's the rules there. And he said, 'I need a song that says goodbye to everybody for a little while, and tells them that I love them… And so I said, 'Okay, we'll do a song together.' And instead of being worried about it, I feel so excited about it, so grateful for this relationship that we have with BTS. And then this song arrived, and I was like, 'This is one of our best songs – let's give it to this gentleman.'”

“Human Heart” is featured on their ninth studio album “Music of the Spheres”, which was released in 2021.
The song featured Jacob Collier and Los Angeles-based R&B duo We Are King.
Chris Martin said of the song, “We love the way that sound shaped up with all the stacked layers of vocals; it's almost like a modern-sounding gospel song in some ways. Sometimes as a musician, it's my job to step in and say, 'Actually, the best course of action for me is to not play anything at all, because what we created here has a much more unique sound.' You have to take your ego out of the picture and understand that the best job you can do is leave something alone. Because then it allows the other songs around it to sound bigger and fuller.”

  • “Fix You” is included on third studio album “X&Y”, which was released in 2005.
"Fix You" was inspired by Chris Martin's wish to continue helping American actress Gwyneth Paltrow get through her grief.
Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow met before the death of her father. They married in December 2003.
Chris Martin said at that time, “My father-in-law Bruce Paltrow bought this big keyboard just before he died. No one had ever plugged it in. I plugged it in, and there was this incredible sound I'd never heard before. All these songs poured out from this one sound. Something has to inspire you, and something else takes over. It's very cloudy.”
