  • pinkpirate Premieres New Song “Can We Talk About The Past Instead?” on BBC Radio 1

  • British singer-songwriter Caitlin Brown, aka pinkpirate premiered a new song “Can We Talk About The Past Instead?” on BBC Radio 1's Future Artists with Jack Saunders.

The song is the second single off of their upcoming sophomore EP “I Don't Want To Grow Up Boring”, which is set to be released on October 28, 2022.
It was written and produced by Caitlin Brown.
“I wrote Can We Talk About The Past Instead about the fear I've always had about growing up,” Caitlin Brown said of the song. “I wanted it to be the fun song on the EP, inspired by Charli XCX and other more 'avant-pop' artists. I've always wanted to talk about my anxiety surrounding growing up within a song and I think the lyrics capture the ideas around the pressure to grow up and not be boring or simple, but simultaneously about how once you get to a certain age, you don't really seem to matter to society anymore (especially on social media). The song originated as a bit of a joke as one of my friends wanted to scream on a song I wrote, so I got her to send me audio of her screaming and then wrote the first verse around that…”
  • Caitlin Brown told Jack Saunders about the song, “So started off initially, as a joke, one of my friends really wanted to scream on one of my songs. And I thought, instead of looking at the current, what can I look at instead and I thought the past is something that I enjoy a lot more than the present at the moment. So I kind of wanted to talk about this fear of growing up. I was 19 when I wrote the song, and I thought this is my last teenage year, and it's getting a little bit scary now. So I thought, let's make it into a bit of a joke. Start off as a bit of a joke with the scream in the track. That's how it started really.”
