Jamie xx Premieres New Song “KILL DEM” on BBC radio 1
British DJ Jamie xx premiered a new song “KILL DEM” on BBC Radio 1's Future Sounds with Clara Amfo on September 20, 2022.
The song was created with Notting Hill Carnival in mind, inspired by the energy of the parties and soundsystems Jamie experienced there since first attending as a teenager.
It was written by Christopher John Lane, James Smith, John Bruce MacGillivray and Philip Thomas. Produced by Jamie xx.
Jamie xx said of the song, “I started making it at a time when we weren’t sure when we were going to be able to do stuff. I was looking forward to the day when I could get back to what I love. It was one of those ones that happens quite instantly and that’s kind of rare for me these days. It happened within almost a day.”- He has performed the song during his show in Europe. Jamie xx told Clara Amfo, “I've been playing all summer fiscally in Europe and I've been trying to make this trip the best it could be and changing it every time slightly depending on how the crowd reacts and it's just been super fun. And that was really nice. It was finally able to come out.”
He continued, “At that point I think it was just a tiny little snippet. I didn't have the rest of it. There's just an element of it that I knew that I'd loved. It's been different experience to be able to develop it over such a long period of time. Never really done it that much before, but I think because I was so excited to play shows again. After all that time I've not been able to do that. I just decided to try and make all my music based around that.”
Recently, he produced The xx's bassist Oliver Sim's debut solo album “Hideous Bastard” released on September 9, 2022. -
