  • Poppy Ajudha Premieres New Song “NO!” on BBC Radio 1

  • London-based singer-songwriter Poppy Ajudha premiered a new song “NO!” on BBC Radio 1's Future Sounds with Clara Amfo.

The song is included on her debut album “THE POWER IN US”, which was released on August 8, 2022.
It was written by Poppy Ajudha, Josh Lloyd-Watson and Thomas McFarland. Produced by Josh Lloyd-Watson and Thomas McFarland.
The accompanying music video was directed by Dylan Hayes.
Poppy Ajudha shared on social media, “When I went into the studio with JUNGLE I was feeling conflicted about my role as a musician and how I wanted to use my voice, the constant opinions and slew of online hate almost made me second guess myself. Then I remembered who tf I am & wrote this track with these 2 icons Josh Lloyd-Watson, Thomas McFarland. NO! ITS MY LIFE! WONT SLOW DOWN!”
Poppy Ajudha told Clara Amfo about the song, “I think with the release of my debut album, 'THE POWER IN US' I had a lot of online hate a lot of criticism, a lot of like sexism on the internet, especially like 'PLAYGOD' is a pro abortion song. There are a lot of people who are not pro abortion. And I was flooded with all of this criticism and information that like I wasn't used to receiving and it actually made me question what I wanted to do and who I was when talking about these kinds of things has been what I've always done. But all of a sudden, I was like, Oh, maybe I just want to be at the highest rights, love songs and just like, fits in or like all of these things.”

She continued, “When I was like, this is actually mad, and I was in the studio with JUNGLE. And I was like, 'Wait a second', 'No', like, this is my life and I'm gonna do whatever the hell I want in it because otherwise I'll live my whole life regretting being who I am. And I think a lot of us can do that we can people please and we can want to fit in and then we just regret not being ourselves. And I think like the verse has this like I'm changing who am I now because I think as you change sometimes people see you differently but the people who are most important to you will acknowledge your change and embrace it. And then the chorus is just like, 'Okay, forget everyone.'”

  • The album comprises 13-track, featuring guest appearance from Nubya Garcia.
She said of the album, “This album is made up of all the things swimming in my mind, from women's rights, to the right to cross borders, to the power of young people to inspire and be unafraid to rock the boat in the name of progress. Women don't have to be just what they are taught to be, there is so much more to us than Mothers, Sisters, Daughters, Girlfriends and our relation to men. I want men to engage more heavily in feminism and really see how their defiance against it only holds both women and men back. There are so many boxes we put ourselves in; I want us all to break out of them. We are in an era of so much information and I feel the weight that young people take on because we are the generation bombarded with global politics and a million causes that need fighting for. This calls for better understanding around mental health and a society that nurtures us rather than demands of us everything we have until all that is left is our Demons. Every song on this album touches on these issues because they are all I think about everyday, all I see around me in my friends and my family. I hope it flips a switch in your mind, like it did for mine.”
