Sunflower Bean Releases New Song “I Don't Have Control Sometimes”
- New York-based rock band Sunflower Bean, consisting of Julia Cumming (bass, lead vocals), Nick Kivlen (guitars), and Olive Faber (drums), released a new song “I Don't Have Control Sometimes” with an accompanying music video.
The song will appear on their upcoming third studio album “Headful of Sugar”, which is set to be released on May 6, 2022.
It was written by Julia Cumming, Nick Kivlen and Olive Faber. The video was directed by Charlotte Ercoli.
Julia Cumming said of the song, “I've always thought that my reckless side was both a gift and a curse, leading me to my best choices on stage but my worst choices in life. I don't have control sometimes is the admission, acceptance, and almost celebration of the parts of yourself that are impulsive or maybe even insane.”
The new album comprises 11-track and is their first LP in four years.
Julia Cumming told Jack Saunders of BBC Radio 1 about the album, “I mean, I think that we basically spent two years every day waking up and writing a song, you know, so we had this big group of material to choose from so I think even though there's a lot of areas that we haven't been before, genre wise, I think in a lot of ways, it's kind of back to the beginning.”
- She continued, “I think you know, the sugar that we're referencing a lot is the cultural sugar that became, you know, our only way of communicating or processing entertainment when everyone's worlds became so small. There were no more shows there were no more friends. There was none of this, you know, tangible, real life that we had built our lives on playing shows before people and I think on this record, there's a lot of big thoughts, talk to songs like roll the dice and then there's other songs like other side and even 'Baby Don't Cry' that I think are meant to be very grounding.”
