Palmaria Releases New Song “Ocean”
- London-based Italian alt-pop duo Palmaria, consisting of Giulia Magnani and Francesco Drovandi, released a new song “Ocean” from their upcoming third EP “Crystallize”.
The song is inspired by the legend of Colapesce, the magical story of a man that sacrifices his life on earth, turning into a fish to save his island.
Palmaria shared on social media, “A while ago we came across the Sicilian legend of Colapesce, an amazing story of a man with a really special connection with the ocean. He was known to be the best swimmer of the island, so the king himself challenged him to dive deeper and deeper to collect his treasures at the bottom of the ocean. While searching, he discovered a big fire under the ocean which was destroying one of the three columns that holds the island. He decided to sacrifice his life on earth, turning into a fish to hold the island forever, saving the life of all the people living on it. To this day he still holds up Sicily and prevents it to be submerged by the sea.”
The track was written by Rocco Giovannoni, Marco Spaggiari, Giulia Magnani and Francesco Drovandi. Produced by B-CROMA.
The duo said of the song, “We wanted to give voice to our frustration; it’s been hurtful to see what is happening, especially growing up in a town almost surrounded by the sea. The ocean has always been such an important element in our lives, inspiring and healing us everytime we were in need, so it’s now our turn, we have to protect it.”
