  • World Surf League: Rip Curl Women's Pro Round 2 & 3, Rookie Caroline Marks Advances to Quarterfinals
  • Women's Championship Rip Curl Women's Pro ran Round 2 and 3 at Bells Beach in Torquay, Australia.
    In Heat 3 of Round 2, Sally Fitzgibbons (AUS) was eliminated by wildcard Kobie Enright (AUS). In her professional surfing career, Fitzgibbons has never fallen below 5th place at the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach event.
    This marked the two-time event winner’s first early elimination ahead of the Final Series in nine years. 18-year-old Enright will advance to Round 3, while 27-year-old Fitzgibbons leaves in 13th place.
    The rookie Caroline Marks (USA) defeated current World No. 2 Keely Andrew (AUS) in Heat 1 of Round 2. Followed by, she eliminated Sage Erickson (USA) and current Jeep Leader Lakey Peterson (USA) in Round 3. She advanced to the Quarterfinals for the first time, and will compete against Johanne Defay (FRA).

    The Rookie Caroline Marks said;
    "This is my first time surfing here at Bells Beach, and I absolutely love it. I came straight here after Snapper and have been surfing a lot, which has helped as it is a tricky wave to understand. I’ve been watching clips of Mark Occhilupo and Bobby Martinez, who were two of the best goofy-footers out here. It’s been really inspiring seeing how they surf this place. I had a really good start to the season at Snapper, which has given me a lot of confidence and making that Round 2 heat has just built on that confidence.
    I really like all those girls. I've looked up to them my whole life and I knew it was going to be a tough heat. I just tried to go with my own program and it worked out. I really like surfing on my backside, which worked to my advantage because I could get vertical. I'm just trying to have fun because there's not a whole lot of pressure on me right now."
