  • Sunflower Bean Premieres New Song “Baby Don't Cry” on BBC Radio 1

  • New York-based rock band Sunflower Bean, consisting of Julia Cumming, Nick Kivlen and Jake Faber, premiered a new song “Baby Don't Cry” on BBC Radio 1's Future Sounds with Clara Amfo.

The song is their first music since the 2020 single “Moment In The Sun”. It was written by Sunflower Bean and produced by UMO's Jacob Portrait.
The band said of the song in a statement, "So many things in our lives are disposable. Content and news is consumed and discarded leaving us unfulfilled. 'Baby Don't Cry' is about enjoying the real. The things right in front of us that give us meaning and how sometimes, even sad songs can give you that warm feeling of hope."
Julia Cumming told Clara Amfo, “We've been just working for most of the past like all of the pandemic like what everyone has been doing kind of all over New York City, and it's just the beginning of a lot of music we are going to be putting out.”
Nick Kivlen continued, “This song is like, it's basically a celebration when you find like that one like actual like real things that actually makes you happy that like kind of cuts through all of the content schlock that we all have to deal with. Just like that feeling of like thank God is actually is making me feel something. It's kind of a celebration that 'Baby Don't Cry' is the radio song. It's playing the sad song.”
  • The band recorded the song at Electric Lady Studios in New York.
Nick Kivlen said, “We set up a recording studio, and recording like crazy.”
Julia Cumming continued, “We were all performing as like teenagers and other bands and then we met each other and we've always just been a part of like the New York City like hit the ground running like tour, tour, tour all the time. And so this has been like the first period of our lives where I think we've got to like actually calm down a very very unexpected benefit of like a very horrific and difficult time.”
