The Black Creatures Releases New Song “Wretched (It Goes)”
Kansas City-based hip-hop duo The Black Creatures, consisting of Jade Green and Xavier Martin, released a new song “Wretched (It Goes)” via Center Cut Records on July 17th.
The track is the first single off of their upcoming full-length album “Wild Echoes”
“Wretched (It Goes)” draws the prison industrial complex and other prevailing systems of socioeconomic and cultural hierarchy, how they work, and how they might be abolished.
“We decided we wanted to write a song about how people are in relationships with oppressive systems,” Jade Green told American Songwriter. “Our focus was getting a message to people about their role; our role, collectively.”
“The hook mentions Franz Fanon's Wretched of the Earth,” she said. “So off top I have to salute what Fanon did for theories on liberation. We want people to name decolonial thought, whether it's from some thick-spined book or it's coming from your friend. We understand there are many systems that have existed deliberately and subconsciously for centuries. We want to have a conversation about the hope in seeing and practicing the behaviors that make these dysfunctional, internationally-upheld systems unnecessary and irrelevant.”
Jade Green found Xavier's SoundCloud and started their new project collaboration as The Black Creatures in 2013.
The full-length album is set to be released on August 28th via Center Cut Records.
