Lola Young Announces New Album “This Wasn't Meant For You Anyway”, Premieres New Song “Messy” on BBC Radio 1
British singer-songwriter Lola Young has announced her new album “This Wasn't Meant For You Anyway” will be released on June 21, 2024 via Island Records.
The album is follow-up to the 2023 project “My Mind Wanders and Sometimes Leaves Completely” and comprises a 11-track, produced by Solomonophonic, manuka, Monsune, Carter Lang, and Cass Lowe.
Lola Young said of the album, “Here is my first born child, a fuck you to all my exes, and basically me just trying to figure out some shit openly and honestly on record. First of many and if you don't like it, then this wasn't meant for you anyway.”
From the album, she premiered the sixth single called “Messy” on BBC Radio 1's New Music Show with Jack Saunders.
She first performed the song on BBC Radio 1's New Music Show in April.
The track was written by Conor Dickinson and Lola Young. Produced by Solomonophonic, manuka, Monsune, and Carter Lang.
The accompanying music video was directed by Sarah Dattani Tucker, who also directed her previous music video for “Wish You Were Dead”.- Lola Young said of the song, “This song is one of the most honest songs ive ever written, its about not being able to make someone you love happy, when you're just being you, which actually sucks. How the hell can being yourself actually be so uncomfortable sometimes?”
She continued, “I actually loved writing this and I fully poured my heart into making this song too. Shout out to everyone that was involved in helping turn this song that i wrote in my bedroom into a proper raw but beautiful sounding record. I hope you can cry to this one, or maybe try putting it on and cleaning that bloody room of yours.” -
Lola Young told Jack Saunders about the song, “It's a realization of I feel like a lot of relationships whether it's actually not being even just romantic relationships I've been in. My own insecurities over bad. Relationship and then as a result of that. They pick up on my insecurities and feel like, you're not theirs. You're not that one thing or the other uses right in between. And even that's not enough for that person. And so it's been a journey of me, like figuring out how to put that in the song, but I've managed to do it and I'm proud of it.”
