  • Laurence DaNova Returns With New Song “Resurfacing”

  • Canadian singer-songwriter Laurence DaNova returned with a new song “Resurfacing” on January 5, 2024.

It is his first music in two years since “This Island”, which was released in 2022.
The song represents a journey towards self-discovery, reconciliation, and escapism.
It was written by Laurence DaNova and Anumalei. Produced by Isaiah Gibbons and Laurence DaNova.
Laurence DaNova said of the song, “Inspired by a poem with ocean imagery written by my creative partner Anumalei, it's a metaphorical narrative of finding solace and escape in an underwater world - a symbolic safe haven, away from the struggles and suffering of the land above. Shipwrecks are wreckages of the past that remind us of our resilience and strength.”
  • He continued, “I wanted to create the '90s trip-hop anthem that never existed, alongside my co-producer Isaiah Gibbons. A lot of the song is built on small samples - from Bollywood-style strings to humpback whales. There's an aggressive boom-bap beat loop, reggae-style guitars, and synth reminiscent of '90s electronic music!”

  • The accompanying music video was directed by Liam Grue, who filmed in Ontario on Chantry Island.
Laurence DaNova said of the video, “Director of photography Liam Grue executed the music video, an abstract story about facing the unknown and recovering from trauma. We shot the video in Ontario on Chantry Island within their 150-year-old lighthouse and lighthouse keeper's inn, and throughout the Tobermory area. My favourite (and the most stressful) part, was shooting underwater with the Sweepstakes Shipwreck in Big Tub Harbour. The shots turned out beautiful!”
