Green Day Announces New Album “Saviors”, Shares New Song “The American Dream Is Killing Me”
American rock band Green Day, consisting of Billie Joe Armstrong (lead vocals/guitars), Mike Dirnt (bass) and Tré Cool (drums), has announced their fourteenth studio album “Saviors” will be released on January 19, 2024 via Reprise Records.
It is their first album in four years since the 2020 album “Father of All Motherfuckers”.
The album comprises 15-track, produced by Rob Cavallo.
The band said of the album, “Saviors is an invitation into Green Day’s brain, their collective spirit as a band, and an understanding of friendship, culture and legacy of the last 30 plus years. It's raw and emotional. Funny and disturbing. It’s a laugh at the pain, weep in the happiness kind of record. Honesty and vulnerability.”
They continued, “What is Saviors about, you ask? Power pop, punk, rock, indie triumph. disease, war, inequality, influencers, yoga retreats, alt right, dating apps, masks, MENTAL HEALTH, climate change, oligarchs, social media division, free weed, fentanyl, fragility,,..What would Andy Warhol do? What would John Waters do? What would Quentin Tarantino do? What would GREEN DAY do?”
- From the album, the band released the first single called “The American Dream Is Killing Me” on October 24, 2023.
The band said that it was one of the last songs to be recorded for the album.
The track was written by Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tré Cool. Produced by Rob Cavallo and Green Day.
The accompanying music video was directed by Brendan Walter and Ryan Baxley.
Billie Joe Armstrong said of the song, “As soon we cut it, we said, ‘OK, that’s going first... [It’s] a look at the way the traditional American Dream doesn’t work for a lot of people - in fact, it’s hurting a lot of people.”
