La Faute Releases New Song “Blue Girl Nice Day”
Canadian singer-songwriter Peggy Messing, aka La Faute released a new song “Blue Girl Nice Day” on February 3, 2023.
The song is the first single off of her upcoming debut album of the same name.
It was written by La Faute and produced by Topher Mohr.
La Faute said of the song, “Sometimes words and phrases get stuck in my mind. This song came to me as I learned about the infamous Milgram Experiments of the 1960's. It's quite a strange and sad experiment, in which subjects were ordered to give ever-increasing electric shocks to a “learner” who had to repeat word pairs (“Blue/Girl Nice/Day Slow/Dance Sweet/Taste Soft/Hair Sharp/Needle Blunt/Arrow True/Story). Those words sounded so simple and poetic, and they totally belie the ruthlessness behind them.”- She continued, “In the experiment, the person memorizing the words was just an actor and of course they made mistakes, so the volunteer had to decide, do I obey orders and give a lethal electric shock to this person who is crying out in the next room, or do I stop the process and say no? Subjects were shaken to find that most would obey the authority figure and give what they thought were lethal shocks to the learner, even against their own conscience. I couldn’t stop thinking of the simple, sweet words and the ruthlessness of the experiment. I think about how we hurt each other, and how we can surprise even ourselves.”

She added, “The song reflects on how easily we can betray and hurt each other, and how we don't necessarily know ourselves and what we are capable of. We can be surprised or betrayed by ourselves, our bodies, our brains, our consciences, our fear. I wanted the music to sound deceptively sweet at first and then become more sinister and sad as it went along. The words from the experiment could be from children's book, yet they cover up so much.” - source : Apple Music
