American singer-songwriter Taylor Grey returned with a new song “Ever Knew Me” on June 24, 2022 via Kobalt Music Group.
The song is her first music launching her comeback to the music industry after a two year hiatus.
It was written by Taylor Grey, and Mark Siegel, who also produced the track.
The song describes the story personal to her having a paralyzing fear of saying goodbye to people.
“When a relationship comes to its natural end, I get scared that the person will hate me, so much so that I end up pulling away and being unable to say anything substantial at all,” Taylor Grey said of the song. “The track references musical elements from the 70s and 80s, which create an energetic pop rock backdrop to this more nostalgic storyline in my life, and I am sure the lives of many others who experience social anxiety like myself."- She shared on social media, “It's hard to believe it has been two and a half years since I've released new music. In some ways, it feels like yesterday that I was out on the road touring, seeing you guys everyday. And in other ways, it feels like it's been a lifetime. Over the past 2.5 years, I graduated college and began to focus on music full-time. This single (and the future music to come ;)) has been about a year and a half in the making. But the time before it, I spent honing my craft. I had time to figure out what *I* wanted to say and how I wanted to say it. “Ever Knew Me” is about my paralyzing inability to say goodbye to people that I care about - not even romantic relationships necessarily, but platonic and professional relationships too. I'd have so much anxiety, so much fear that the other person would hate me that I end up creating a self-fulfilling prophecy and hurting people more. So much of my adolescence was spent feeling invisible. So for many years, I truly believed people would not care if I “fade into the background.” It took me longer than I'd like to admit, but I now fully understand how wrong I was. This song is the emblematic introduction to this new era of music, after I so abruptly stopped without saying goodbye 2.5 years ago. So, hello again. And I hope that you [don't] forget you ever knew me at all.”
