Bastille Premieres New Song “survivin'” on Apple Music 1
- British alt-pop band Bastille premiered a new song “survivin'” on Apple Music's Zane Lowe radio show on September 22nd.
The song follows up “WHAT YOU GONNA DO???” released back in July. It was written by Plested, Mark Crew, Dan Smith and Dan Priddy.
The track features sax by Bastille's touring member Rittipo. The band said, “We wanted his sax lines to be obnoxiously loud and we wanted them to make people smile”.
Frontman Dan Smith told Zane Lowe, “I guess with this song and with this whole next phase of our band, I want to push to the forefront all the stuff that we've been doing for years in terms of experimenting and bringing in different kinds of sounds, and feels, and grooves. It's quite a simple sentiment, but I think it speaks to that feeling that people get all the time of just sort of like trudging through the day and life being a bit overwhelming.”
- Dan Smith began work on the song months before 2020. “There'd been times when I felt like I'd been in a washing machine and on a conveyor belt at the same time,” he says, “but when people asked me how I was doing, the answer was always the British cliché: 'Yep, all good, fine.”
He continued, “At the start of lockdown I felt very self-conscious about having written a song that felt relevant when it wasn't intended to be, but then I also think 2020 is the year we all stopped pretending everything's fine.”
