Amy Shark Covers Kylie Minogue's “Can't Get You Out Of My Head”
Australian alt-pop singer-songwriter Amy Shark released a cover of Australian singer-songwriter Kylie Minogue's “Can't Get You Out Of My Head” on November 17, 2023.
She re-recorded the song for Mushroom Records' 50th anniversary.
Also, Amy Shark will be one of many artists appearing at the label's massive 50th birthday concert in Melbourne later this month.
The original version of the song was released by Kylie Minogue from her eighth studio album “Fever” in 2001.
The song reached number one in 40 countries worldwide, including the UK Singles chart and Australia Singles chart. Also the song has been sold over five million copies worldwide.
Amy Shark shared, “I'm so excited to have my version of 'Can't Get You Out Of My Head'. Even more excited that Kylie likes it. I write a lot of songs about deep personal issues and relationships and if I'm being completely honest with you, reimagining and working on this song was extremely liberating.”- Amy Shark said of the cover version, “So my next single is a re-record of Kylie Minogue 'Can't Get You Out Of My Head'. And it's a bit of a story about how this came about but basically, Mushroom Records here in Australia is turning 50 and to celebrate their 50s, they're getting a lot of artists to cover mushroom artists and they gave me Kylie, they asked me if I wanted to do a Kylie Minogue cover and I was really honored because she's obviously an icon and a queen.”
She continued, “So I was a bit nervous. I'm not gonna lie I did. I did one take of it. And I just didn't like it. I just thought she deserved better, I really sat with the song I sat with a one night I was kind of I was looking over like the Sydney Harbour Bridge and it was a really nice warm night, had a couple of glasses of wine and just kind of reworked the chord progression made it just like a little more me, but I still wanted to you know, pay homage to to her song and the melody and everything.” -
She added, “So I just got so excited. I went record it and once it was all put together with all the new vocals and the guitars and everything. I was hooked. I was hooked so much that I literally just wiped a single that was planned to be released to make room for Kylie to make room for this song because I was just so freaking excited about it. I hope you love it as much as I do. It just feels right.” - source : Apple Music
