Tori Kelly Releases New EP “tori”
American singer-songwriter Tori Kelly released the fourth EP “tori” on July 28, 2023.
The EP is her first project in three years since the 2020 EP “Solitude”.
She started making the EP in 2021, initially planned as an album. The EP features Y2K-era R&B sound in part.
The EP comprises 7-track, featuring guest appearances from Ayra Starr and Jon Bellion.
She made The EP with producer Jon Bellion, also working with other producers Diner, P2J, Tenroc, and The Diner.
Tori Kelly said of the EP, “It's been a long time since my last project, and there's been a lot of growth. Since then, I've been working on what's become the next chapter. When I first started working with Jon Bellion, we were just beginning to scratch the surface on a new sound that truly felt like my own. I know I'm gonna look back on this collaboration as the start of something really special. In some ways, I'm simply going back to my roots. This music makes me feel confident in my own skin. Feels like I'm finally stepping into myself as Tori.”- Before the release of the EP, Tori Kelly was hospitalized at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for blood clots after collapsing at a restaurant in Los Angeles.
Blood clots had been found in her body around her vital organs, and she is currently receiving treatment.
She canceled a number of events she had planned in connection to the project's release.
Tori Kelly shared on social media in a handwritten note,
“Hi friends...
As you made have heard, I'm dealing with some unexpected health challenges. It has been a scary few days but, I can feel your prayers and can't stop thinking about you.
I'm feeling stronger now and hopeful but, unfortunately, there are still some things to uncover. I'm so grateful for the amazing doctors and nurses who have been looking out for me.
Of course, I'm heartbroken about all of the things I had planned for this week of releasing my EP. But, I know my health must come first. Until I see you again, I still want you to enjoy a project that represents the happy place I've been in the last few years.
I won't let this hurdle prevent the music from being yours on Friday.
