Aiza Releases New Song “Kité”
Toronto-based Afro-bop singer-songwriter Aiza will release her debut album “Sovereignty” on September 27, 2023.
From the album, she released a new song “Kité” on July 5, 2023.
The song title Kité (“quitter” in French) means “to leave” in English.
Aiza explained about the title, “The title of this song is a clever play on words. The word Kité ('quitter' in French) means 'to leave' but it also means 'Qui t'es?' as in 'Who are you?' It was very important for me to include a song in French on my upcoming album because I want my listeners to hear that side of me.”
The track was written by Andrée Isabelle Ntibarikure, Christopher Cargnello, and Dayane Kamana Ntibarikure. Produced by C The Reason.
“When you do your best to communicate with someone and they take absolutely no accountability for their hurtful actions, it's time to cut them off,” she said of the song. “With my new single 'Kité,' I've reached my tipping point. This banger plays out as a heated conversation between me and someone who has overstepped my boundaries for the last time.”- She continued, “Musically, C The Reason and I were very inspired by Stromae and his distinct ability to tell a profound story over a thumping beat. We pulled from a few different West African and Afro-cuban rhythms, and my vocal performance is a not-so-subtle nod to the Congolese music I grew up listening to. The song features almost exclusively acoustic instruments: hand claps, shakers, timbale, congas, along with bongo, talking drum, and wood blocks performed by my 'Majimbo' collaborator, K.O.G.”

She added, “'Kité' is my message to all the narcissists, abusers and energy vampires of this world - move trick, gtfo of my house! To my listeners, may this track inspire you to stand up for yourself. No more making excuses for those who choose to kick you when you're down. And no more bending over backwards for people who wouldn't even lift a finger for you.”
