  • Mahalia Premieres New Song “Terms and Conditions” on BBC Radio 1

  • British singer-songwriter Mahalia premiered a new song “Terms and Conditions” on BBC Radio 1's Future Sounds with Clara Amfo.

The song is the firs single off of her upcoming second studio album.
It is her first album in four years since the 2019 album “Love and Compromise”.
She wrote the song with British singer-songwriter RAYE who also co-produced the track with The Elements.
Mahalia said of the song, “For as long as I've known her, Raye has been one of the most talented people I know. On stage and in the studio. Outside of being good friends in real life, we'd never had to chance to work together on something before.'Terms and conditions' was the last song I made for this album. It was my final day writing in Ldn and to be honest, I was exhausted. This album took me 3 years to write and at the end of last year, I was so ready to hand it over.”
She continued, “It's all about setting boundaries and deciding what things I would no longer compromise on. I made this song with my wonderful friend and artist, Raye and two of my favorite producers - The Elements. This record is just the first taste from my upcoming second album and I can't wait to see if people like it!”
  • Mahalia told Clara Amfo about the song, “That's kind of like I feel like boundaries is my buzzword at the minute. To be fair, it always has been I think I'm very much that has always spoken about. Boundaries lines that you can't cross but this song is like totally that. It's just about the small print as you said. I don't know I am. I love this record because I feel like it's a great intro to kind of what the album is about and all the different parts of it.”
She continued, “Because I think I have like, I've kind of done this rodeo many times before. Not that okay, I'm a baby and I'm 24 but for some reason I've been in probably more relationships than my friends which I don't know if that sounds good or not. So I think for me like I've kind of gone through so many relationships situation, just like entanglement. I've like gone through so many things with lovers that like I've kind of gotten to this point where I'm like, Okay, I now have a clear list of things. That I don't want to compromise on any more. And I don't know like just writing this record and making it. I feel like not to be too cliche, but I really felt like I learned a lot about myself and like some of the things that I actually wanted to say.”

  • She said, “I mean terms or conditions was written on my last day of writing my album, and I was exhausted. I was completely like, I've been writing it for three years. So I was really ready to like finish and when it came to writing 'Terms and Conditions'. I didn't really know that like that was a song that I was going to write I didn't know that was the last thing that I had to say, but it just made sense. And it felt like an important thing to say as well, like I kind of I think I've always kind of stuck with this string through all my music that is kind of about compromising and that kind of stuff. From my first album to this song, I feel like you can feel that I'm still the same girl. I'm just kind of developing and growing.”
