Stop No.3 of WSL Women's Championship, Rip Curl Women's Pro Bells Beach kicked off at Bells Beach in Victoria Australia on April 12, 2017. Round 1-3 were run in three-to-five foot waves.
Currently, Stephanie Gilmore (AUS) and Sally Fitzgibbons (AUS), both surfers are equal to top on CT ranking, wearing yellow jersey.
This time, Ella Williams (NZL) and Isabella Nichols (ASU) participated in this event as wild card.
Defending event winner Courtney Conlogue (USA) was defeated by Sage Erickson (USA) on Round 1, but she eliminated Isabella Nichols (ASU) in Round 2. However she was taken down by Carissa Moore in Round 3, she has to surf again in elimination Round 4.
Reigning World Champion Tyler Wright (ASU) was so strong on Round 1, she earned 9.00 and 8.00. In addition, she received 9.20 and 9.27 in Round 3, advanced directly to Quarterfinals.
Unfortunately, Margaret River Pro winner Sally Fitzgibbons (AUS) was injured in Round 3. After ripping, she wiped out and injured her left ankle. According to women's commissioner Jessi Miley-Dyer, Fitzgibbons has a fairly large laceration on the top of her left foot. She's been attended to by the WSL medical team. At the moment, it is not confirm whether she will be able to surf tomorrow or not.
WSL Deputy Commissioner Jessi Miley-Dyer said;
“Sally Fitzgibbons is in a fair-bit of pain. I think she has a pretty big gash at the top of her foot. I do not know the much about how deep or anything but there is a fair amount of blood. The medics are taking care of her now.”
