Balsam Range Premieres New Song “Angel Too Soon”
- American bluegrass band Balsam Range released their ninth studio album “Aeonic” for the first time in three years on January 4, 2019.
The band dropped a new song “Angel Too Soon” from the album. It was written by Paul Thorn.
“The first time I heard that song, I could not get home fast enough,” fiddle player Buddy Melton said of the episode. “I have a daughter who was fairly young, and it hit me really hard. Reminds you that things are not always permanent, so be grateful while you’ve got it. There’s another plan sometimes.”
The album comprises of 11-track including The Beatles' cover “If I Need Someone”. The acoustic sound is incredible and awesome.
“The best way to promote traditional bluegrass is to try and be original and do your own thing,” mandolinist Darren Nicholson said. “Some traditionalists almost killed it by always wanting to revert back to the old. But if all you’re doing is homage to the old and nobody’s doing anything new, then it dies. When Bill Monroe created bluegrass, he was cutting-edge and different. We’re trying to do the same thing. It’s hard to get too far away from the roots in bluegrass, but you have to put your own stamp on it.”
