Donate to support families affected by the crisis in Ukraine ➔ X Ambassadors Releases New Song “skip.that.party” featuring Jensen McRae
American rock trio X Ambassadors, consisting of Sam Harris, Casey Harris and Adam Levin, recruited Los Angeles-base singer-songwriter Jensen McRae to release a new song “skip.that.party”.
The song is the second single off of their upcoming fourth studio album “(Eg)”, following “sultraviolet.tragedies” featuring Terrell Hines.
The track was written by Adam Levin, Casey Harris, Jensen McRae and Sam Harris. Produced by Jensen McRae and X Ambassadors.
Sam Harris explained of the song, “Okay where to even start… I first heard Jensen Mcrae when my wife played me her song “Wolves”, standing in our kitchen. I was frozen to the spot. The song was devestatingly beautiful— lyrically, melodically, tonally, it hit every single mark. It left the kinda scar you wanna run your fingers over again and again, desperately trying to remember that feeling. I swear, I'd never heard a singer / songwriter / artist like her. So I DM'd her (as one does these days) to gush like the ultimate fanboy and was pleasantly surprised when she got back to me. She said she was a fan, so i suggested we try writing something together. I sent her some guitar chords and she IMMEDIATELY sent me back a full song. I was—again—fucking floored. So we went back and fourth a few more times, wrote some more stuff, and a beautiful friendship started. Eventually i told her my band was working on a collaborative record / series and I asked her if she had any ideas lying around that we could use for a duet. He continued, “Again. IN. SANE. LY. GOOD. She told me she wrote it the night after somone broke her heart, and that she cried the whole time writing it. I was so impressed (but mainly because when i'm broken-hearted i'm usually neck deep in a swimming pool of popcorn, Wheat Thins, and Brie watching all of the Avengers movies in a row soooo i don't get around to song-writing).”
He added, “I added a few of my own lyrics in the last chorus, and we were off to the races. It took a couple weeks to dial in the production and as soon as we were finished we knew we had something very special. So we are all THRILLED to share it with you. If you don't know her yet, you fucking better. All hail the queen @jensenmcrae . Prep the tissues.”-
Jensen McRae shared on social media, “way back in March 2020 @samnelsonharris_xa reached out to say he was a fan. I'd been headbanging to the @xambassadors since I was 17–I was stoked to hear from him, and to work together, even during a pandemic. a couple months later, I got my heart broken; I'd met the boy at a party right before lockdown, and I would've done anything to go back and skip it. so I wrote a few angry verses about it, and sent them to Sam when he asked if I'd been working on anything new. he turned the song from me sniffling to logic and a vocoder into a bigger, better duet about wanting a do-over. this is one of my favorite collabs I've ever done. I'm scared, because it's extremely personal, but the boy I wrote it about doesn't have social media and also doesn't care about my music career.” - source : Spotify
