HONNE Releases New Album “OUCH”
London-based art-pop duo HONNE, consisting of James Hatcher (producer) and Andy Clutterbuck (vocals/producer), released their fourth studio album “OUCH” on September 6, 2024.
This marks their first album in three years since the 2021 album “Let's Just Say the World Ended a Week from Now, What Would You Do?”.
Also, it is their first release under their new label Smile More Recordings.
The album comprises a 16-track, featuring a guest appearance from British singer-songwriter Liang Lawrence.
The duo wrote, recorded, produced, and mixed the album by themselves in London.
Andy Clutterbuck said of the album, “The new album is largely about my kids. It's about the wonderful things they bring to your life, but then also the isolation parenthood can bring, before coming through the other side. It's a playful way to say: it's wonderful, but it's going to hurt.”- He continued, “One of the things we've been looking forward to is for this album was being able to go back to how we started. It's very us, everything we've done is made by us, and we wanted to be across it all and take back control. It feels really nice to get it back and put your stamp on everything.”
The duo shared, “We’ve both been through enormous life changes over the last couple of years. We’ve had some of the most beautiful, deeply love-filled moments of our lives, whilst also some of the most frightening and challenging moments too. They’re all recorded in this album.” -
The duo explained about some tracks for the album.
“Girl In The Orchestra”
“When I was younger, I joined my school orchestra cause a girl I liked played the flute. I didn't even read music at the time so was quite out of my depth. School crushes were always a little hard to navigate and could end up being quite painful. 'Girl In The Orchestra' tells this story.”
“Imaginary”
“‘Imaginary’ is about beginnings. It tells the story of when I first met my wife all those years ago back in college and how my imagination ran wild thinking about kids and our future lives together. Luckily for me it all came true and now we’re happily married with two babies.
“Songs In My Head”
“It’s all about writing songs in your sleep… and the strangest thing about this song is that it was actually written in my sleep. Ultimately it’s about wanting to tell someone you love them, but never finding the words, so you just keep writing them songs in your head - which seems to be the story of my life.”
“Say That You Will Wait For Me” featuring Liang Lawrence
“'Say That You Will Wait For Me' is a familiar subject matter for us. It’s about going away and missing the heck out of someone. This song really touches a nerve however, as now I’m a parent, it’s doubly hard to say goodbye and to leave. It’s also heartbreaking to leave your kid behind as when you say goodbye you know they don’t understand that you aren’t coming home that evening. 'Say That You Will Wait For Me' is my way of saying please say you’ll remember me when I get back from.
We absolutely love this song. It kind of feels like the sequel to Location Unknown. The theme of long distance relationships still really touches a nerve. We quite often go away for work and when we do we miss the heck out of those we leave at home. It's always been hard saying goodbye but now I'm a dad it's doubly hard to go away and it's especially heartbreaking knowing my kids don't understand why I don't come home that evening. We filmed this video ourselves with Liang, at 4 in the morning in England. Trying to portray that feeling of wanting to get back to the person you love as soon as you can. Like this if you tried to wipe your screen during the video. Damn you rain on the lens!! haha”
“Backseat Driver”
“It was written as a result of having some therapy sessions, which ended up being more casual conversations about my life and who I was as a person. In my teens and growing up I always thought I was quite outgoing. I certainly wasn’t shy and felt lucky to have a broad range of friends in different circles. As I’ve gotten older, I feel the opposite has happened and for whatever reason I feel I’ve become much more of an introvert and for a long time I’ve felt almost ashamed of this, like it was wrong to be like this in some way, especially for someone who is one of the front people of a band. Having therapy allowed me to understand that there’s nothing wrong with the way I am and helped me change my view on being an introvert. ‘Backseat Driver’ is about coming to terms with and enjoying taking the backseat and going by unnoticed.” - source : Apple Music
