American singer-songwriter Kehlani dropped a new music video for “After Hours” directed by Amber Park on May 7, 2024.
The music video was filmed at the Fontainebleau in Las Vegas. The clip features a special appearance by Cordel “Scatta” Burrell.
The song was released last month and is her first music in two years since the 2022 album “Blue Water Road”.
The track samples Nina Sky's 2004 single “Move Ya Body” featuring Jabba.
It was written by Alex Goldblatt, Khris Riddick, Cordel Burrell, Daniel Upchurch, Diovanna Frazier, and Kehlani Parrish. Produced by Alex Goldblatt, and Khris Riddick.
Kehlani told Zane Lowe of Apple Music about the song, “One of my favorite songs of all time, but also just like to be outside is -no pun intended- is ‘Move Ya Body’ by Nina Sky and I remember walking around the house like ‘Why has nobody sampled [this]?’ Because those drums are so recognizable and everybody just loses it. It’s one of those things where it drops and everybody goes, ‘Woo,’ and bends their knees and puts their hands on their knees.”- She continued, “Coming out of this pandemic to global tragedy to global tragedy to global tragedy, I was like I’m not really in a space to make something that feels super jarring or super sad. I’m very outspoken about these things, but I want my art to provide some kind of life and fun. I wanna hear this outside and I wanna feel good.”
- Kehlani shared on social media, “Wish I could tell the story of how much it took for this video to happen but all I can say is I'm super grateful for everyone that came together for it, it was a true labor of JOY.”
Director Amber Park added, “Had an absolute blast directing this one with the greatest Kehlani. Truly an energy of love & so much joy. Thank you to the craziest team & crew to make this happen.”
